Current IRC Status Reports: NO ACTION Louisiana State Representative Jack Montoucet, Lafayette, authored Louisiana House Concurrent Resolution #145 calling for the LA State Fire Marshal to study and report the feasibility of requiring residential fire sprinklers in new homes. The findings must be reported to the Louisiana Legislature by February 1, 2011. State Fire Marshal H. Butch Browning called for the initial phase of the study to be an awareness session on January 5, 2010 at Department of Public Safety & Corrections Public Safety Services Office in Baton Rouge. He spoke as a proponent of residential fire sprinklers by stating fire fatalities in Louisiana for 2009 recorded 60 lost lives with 25 coming in homes constructed in the last 15 years. A number of stakeholders participated in the session including the state’s fire service organizations, homebuilders, NFPA, NFSA among others. FM Browning recapped and said that the group would be asked to participate in developing the report for the State Commerce Committee by the February 2011 deadline so that committee could review and forward to the state legislature. He asked that members forward information and to look for the minutes of the meeting and the announcement of the next meeting that was yet to be scheduled. |
