Current IRC Status Reports: MA BBRS is code adoption agency. HBA negatively influenced NFPA 13D Report - it will be challenged before BBRS at public hearings. On a high note the BBRS Chair has sprinklered home, but the Board is pro-homebuilders.The finalized draft of the report was submitted to the BBRS at their March 9th meeting at noon in Wellesley, MA. Over 100 Fire Officials, sprinkler fitters, representatives of the NFPA and NFSA and others attended the meeting. Many speakers, including the NFSA testified to challenge the data in the report, especially the survey by the Massachusetts Home Builders Association on the cost of residential sprinklers in Massachusetts. Public hearings on the adoption of the 2009 IRC will take place later this year. 6-8-2010 - The Massachusetts Board of Building Regulations and Standards voted to bring the Massachusetts Building Code 8th Edition One and Two Family Dwelling (2009 edition of the IRC) Volume to November 2010 Public Hearing (most likely November 9, 2010). |
