Robert Kleinheinz is an experienced
fire professional with over thirty years of service for the Libertyville Fire
Department. Throughout the years, Robert has held the positions of a full time
Inspector for the Libertyville Prevention Bureau, Lake County Quadrant (4)
Divemaster and evidence and hazardous materials technician for Lake County. Most
recently Robert held the position as the Libertyville Fire Department’s
Assistant Chief in charge of the Fire Prevention Bureau. His duties included
inspections, plan reviews, public education, code development and fire
investigations along with implementing a new Residential Fire and Sprinkler Code
adopted by the Village of Libertyville in 2005.
In 2005, Robert had the opportunity to collaborate with the Home Fire Safety
Council in developing a CD with Rob Hazelton explaining the advantages for
contractors when building with sprinklers. In 2006, Robert helped produce a
segment with Peg Paul and the CBS Early Show pertaining to home sprinklers and
smoke detectors in which Robert was in charge of all details pertaining to the
segment including setting up the live burn and insuring that the system was
installed properly. Most recently in January of 2007, Robert was chosen to
appear in a full page national advertisement supporting the Home Fire Sprinkler
Council. The advertisement appeared in magazines such as FireHouse, Fire Rescue
and Fire Chief. |

Issues:
The Illinois Fire Inspectors and the Illinois
Fire Chiefs are proposing a new bill this year to stop the sale of fake fire
protection devices in the State. This bill will try to stop the sale of
items like fake sprinkler heads and smoke detectors that are not operational
but are used as a camera.
Senate Bill 495 is now law and that means that
your system inspectors need to either be a Nicet level 2 or must have gone
through an approved apprentice program by 2009.

Upcoming Events:
The Illinois Fire Inspectors, NIFSAB, and the
Illinois Fire Chiefs are hosting a Fire Sprinkler Summit on the 20Th of Feb
at the Medinah Banquet Center in Addison IL, contact the Inspectors office
at 847-756-4750 for details.
The IFPA-SFPE combined show is March the 18Th at
the White Eagle in Niles.
The Northern IL Fire Inspectors and the NFSA
will be hosting a 3 - day class starting May the 7Th. The first day will be
divided between a 2002 NFPA 13 update and a Intro to Sprinklers class while
the next two days will be the NFSA Plan Review class, please watch the mail

The next ITM class will be held in the Champaign
