Controlling the Business Environment
There are a number of construction trade interests who also face the same abuse from these frivolous lawsuits. To overcome the political power of the aggressive trial bar lobby we must join with other construction trades in a coalition effort. Some states have already formed construction trade coalitions with the purpose of working together to resolve common business environment issues such as tort reform to minimize these frivolous lawsuits, workers’ compensation reform, prompt pay and retainage reform, and the many other issues that impact the bottom line. The key to Forming a Construction Coalition is understanding that there will never be agreement between members on some issues, but working together to solve common problems is the best for all.
There are many issues that can and should be addressed and the best way to start down the path of construction trades coming together to protect the business environment is to identify a cause of major interest. The following topics are examples of some issues addressed in some states along with the successful legislation that will need to be revised to reflect local concerns. The information provided herein “worked” in some states and will have to be altered to make it friendly to your state’s law structure. Please contact Buddy Dewar if additional information is needed.
