Focus: The purpose of the course is to take a person with basic knowledge of math, physical science and drafting skills and teach them to be productive basic sprinkler layout and detailing technicians. All of the work elements necessary for NICET Level II Certification will be covered by the course including sprinkler selection, sprinkler spacing and location, obstructions to sprinklers, water supplies (public mains, tanks and pumps), hydraulic calculation of sprinkler systems, and standpipe system layout and calculation.

Victoria B. Valentine, P.E. - is Director of Engineering for the NFSA. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, both from WPI in Worcester, MA. She serves as a member of the NFPA Committee on Hanging and Bracing and helps to write ASCE 7 structural load requirements for fire protection and other mechanical systems.
Roland Asp, C.E.T. - is the Manager of Technical Services for the NFSA. He is certified by NICET as a Level III in the Water-Based System Layout program. He serves as a member of the NFPA Committees on Sprinkler System Installation Criteria and Private Fire Service Mains.
Bob Upson, M.S.F.P.E. - is the Manager of Installation Standards for the NFSA. After a 30 year career as a firefighter, Bob went back to school to earn his Masters in Fire Protection Engineering at WPI in Worcester, MA.
Jeffrey M. Hugo, CBO - is the Manager of Codes for the NFSA. He represents the fire sprinkler industry in the development of the International Code Council family of codes. He also represents NFSA on several NFPA technical committees including NFPA 101 and NFPA 5000. He also assists the NFSA.

Homework will be assigned each night and each day will begin with a review of the previous night’s homework.
Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and should conclude by 5:00 p.m. each day, except for the 10th day,
which should end by noon or 1:00 p.m.
