Introduction to Fire Sprinklers, Standpipes and Fire Pumps

Knowing the various types of fire protection systems that go into a building is the key to understanding their role in protecting property and lives. This program will take the participant through the various components of sprinkler systems, fire pumps and standpipes and discuss how the systems work individually and collectively to provide protection from fire in buildings. Starting with a bit of history on these systems the seminar covers the type of systems, types of sprinklers, pump types and components, terms and basic definitions used in NFPA 13, 14 and 20.

At the conclusion of this seminar the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the components of fire sprinkler systems
  2. Identify the components of fire pumps and drivers
  3. Identify the components of a standpipe system
  4. Discuss how these three systems interact to provide water-based fire protection within a building.
  5. Discuss the importance of inspection, testing and maintenance

Participants must bring current copies of NFPA 13, 14 & 20 to class.
