Layout Technician Training - Blended Learning Online Portion
This course is designed to take
a person with basic knowledge of math, physical science and drafting skills and
teach them to be productive basic sprinkler layout and detailing technicians.
All of the skills necessary for NICET Level II Certification will be covered by
The blended learning format allows for
a combination of self-paced learning and intense in-person applications of the
knowledge. The online portion can be completed at your own pace but an NFSA
facilitator is available if needed assistance and answering questions you may
have on the topics covered. This phase contains a wide variety of presentations
which requires your participation. The online portion also requires successful
completion of online unit quizzes and activities before progressing to the next
NFSA will offer the five day in-person
phase at various dates and locations throughout the year. The in-person phase brings participants together for intense layout and design work under the
guidance of an NFSA Instructor. While the in-class portion of the Layout Technician Training - Blended Learning seminar is not required, this seminar was designed for the online and in-person portions to compliment each other and enhance the learning process. A Certificate of Completion will only be issued upon completion of the entire Layout Technician Blended Learning Program including both the online and in-class sections.
Each student will receive a set
of Layout Technician Training course materials by mail. The NFSA textbook, Layout,
Detail and Calculation of Sprinkler Systems, 2nd edition, is
the primary text for the course. The student will also receive a copy of NFPA
13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, a calculator,
highlighters, plans, handouts and a scale rule.
Online Course Schedule
class is divided into two distinct phases: online and in-person. The online
phase consists of six learning units that total approximately 40 hours in length.
During this time, the student is required to complete a substantial amount of
self-paced work through viewing presentations and completing learning
activities. Each of these units have been designed to build on each other.
During this phase, an assigned facilitator will be available to assist as needed.
They will be available for emails or phone calls as needed. To complete this unit the participant must submit verification of competency in Computer Aided Design (CAD) from either their employer or a CAD training course.

NOTE: This registration is for the online portion only. The in-class portion of the seminar will be provided at various times throughout the year and requires a separate registration and registration fee.The Layout Technician Training - Blended Learning course has been designed to meet all learning outcomes through BOTH the online and in-class portions and therefore a certificate of completion will only be provided for the completion of BOTH portions.
