Pumps for Fire Protection

 

Utilizing NFPA 20, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection this one-day program guides the participant through the basic operating principles of fire pumps; the requirements for the various components that make up a fire pump package and addresses the requirements for acceptance testing for the pump to ensure proper operation.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this seminar the participant will be able to:


1. Describe the types of fire pumps and their applications
2. Identify fire pump components
3. Locate the requirements for fire pumps in NFPA 20
4. Discuss installation requirements of electric motor and engine driven fire pumps
5. Apply acceptance testing requirements for fire pumps and related equipment

Sprinkler Protection of Storage

 

Storage occupancies present unique challenges to sprinkler system design and installation. NFPA 13 has complex and varying rules for the protection of stored commodities. This fast paced and interactive seminar will explore these requirements as they are related to types of commodities, storage configurations and special storage situations. The participant will be guided through a series of decisions and requirements that lead to compliance with NFPA 13 and ensure the system will operate properly when needed.

 

Learning Outcomes:

At the conclusion of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the basic differences among various commodities stored in accordance with NFPA 13.
  2. Identify the general parameters used in the storage of all commodities in accordance with NFPA 13, including Class I-IV commodities, Plastics, mixed commodities, & idle pallets.
  3. Recognize the method of determining classifications for unknown commodities. 
  4. Discuss how the classification of a commodity can be affected by its storage on different type pallets 
  5. Describe how changes in a commodity affect the owner’s responsibilities under NFPA 25.
