SSHE-FDSS-01-2000 Fire Detection and Sprinkler Systems

The State System Of Higher Education is seeking to qualify separate prime firms (fire sprinkler systems) to design and install fire sprinkler systems in dormitories throughout the Commonwealth's 14 state owned universities located at Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester.

Though the System is desiring to design and install complete fire detection and sprinkler systems throughout the university dormitories, this ITQ is for a phase to include only the design and installation of the Fire Sprinkler Systems in dormitories. The separate prime contractors, either fire sprinkler contractors and/or plumbing contractors, must be capable of preparing complete designs for fire sprinkler Systems for dormitories, and capable of installing those Fire Sprinkler Systems in the dormitories. The fire sprinkler Systems must be designed and installed assuming that they will be inter-connected with fire detection systems to be designed and installed at a later date.

Another ITQ will be issued at a later date for the qualification of separate prime contractors to do the work that will complete the installation of the fire detection and sprinkler systems in dormitories. That work will include fire detection systems to be inter-connected to the sprinkler systems, plumbing work to connect to water sources, and other work to make the system fully operational. Designs for that work will be provided by the System for bidding by the Contractors.

The System encourages responses from small firms, minority firms, women owned firms, and firms that have not previously worked for the System, and will consider joint ventures that enable these firms to participate in System contracts.
